If you’ve ever owned any vintage or boutique pedals, you’ve perhaps heard of “modding” your pedal. Ibanez tube-screamers are a pedal in particular that often get modded for instance. Usually players do this in order to get more juice out of a fuzz box or perhaps warm up a tone in the reverb unit.

Every-so-often a company will see how popular some of these mods become and will release their own version for mass consumption. So, MXR has decided that their Custom Badass pedal needed such a tweak! Here it is straight from the horse’s mouth:

For added flexibility, we’ve added a 100HZ cut and boost control that allows for a more focused EQ when cut, or a beefier tone when boosted. The Bump switch engages an alternate EQ voicing that boosts the lows and mids. Put it in front of the ’78 Custom Badass Distortion for a slew of amp-like gain structures that won’t mask your tone.

So there you have it. If you were ever interested in the ’78 Custom Badass pedal, we pray you take a look at this new modded version. We’d hate for you to buy the new version and then suddenly have to pay another $200 to have it essentially be the same as this one.

Not going to lie about this, but I hope all guitar effects companies follow in TC Electronics footsteps when it comes to this. Image being able to download the tone file for Joe Bonomassa? Or SRV? and then just tell your pedal to do the same thing! The sky is the limit with this new technology.

Hopefully someone somewhere will come up with a standardization for all of this and we can see this across the board. Pretty awesome…

The picture above is one of their *ahem* “Crem-de-la-crem” guitars. Yup, that’s wildcard #7! We’ve also got a pretty decent stock on the Desolation line which features (above other things) set-neck design, matte finish neck back, flame-maple tops, as well as active EMG pickups (on select lines). The colors are probably some of the best in the business that we’ve seen (especially for a $650 guitar!!!). VERY comparable to a PRS that usually sell for over a thousand.

Very similar to Fender’s previous Mustang amplifiers, this mini-monster packs the same powerful punch as the rest of the line. From Fender:

Details are rather scarce, but according to our friends over at Guitar Noize this guitar features Dimarzio PAF and Super-Distortion pickups as well as some Gotoh hardware. Pretty cool looking axe if you ask me.

UPDATE: Fender has made this official. Here’s their statement:
